If You or Your Clients Had Flooding, Here’s What To Do…

Heavy rains fell all over New York State yesterday, causing sporadic flooding in many areas. If your agency or clients suffered flood damage and have coverage through the National Flood Insurance Program, the NFIP advises the following:
• Encourage your clients to contact you immediately. If it’s your agency that has suffered damage, contact the NFIP or the Write Your Own carrier providing coverage. Have the carrier’s name, policy number and telephone/e-mail address information for the insured available.
• Separate out the damaged property to the extent possible. Photograph damaged property; make lists of damaged property and include age, value and receipts, if available; and place flooded objects outside the building in case officials require its disposal.
• Cooperate with the claim adjuster and submit the Proof of Loss form in a timely manner.
